It’s always fun to see the kids growing up when you photograph a family over a period of years. These two youngsters were only four and seven when I saw them last. Now they are nine and twelve, and handle phone cameras with a lot more confidence than I have. They are still both well-behaved and polite, which was impressive, given that our 10 a.m. start time was 7 a.m. West Coast time where they live.
Of course, they are still kids, meaning that there’s always a bit of uncertainty about how the session will progress. One of our goals was to photograph them in the same family room chair where we took their picture five years ago.

They weren’t quite feeling the love at the beginning.

But with a few minutes of mom teasing them, they relaxed and looked as charming as ever.

I think in five years, though, they aren’t going to be able to sit side by side in that chair.
