Eiven’s family is from Detroit, which means he grew up among people who knew and appreciated fine automobiles as more than a mode of transportation. Eiven has been passionate about cars since he was little and is lucky enough to have a close family member with a Corvette. Eiven is looking at engineering as a career path, and although automotive engineering seems like a natural fit, he is keeping his options open for now.
The temperature was in the mid 80s for Eiven’s session, and two of his outfits were hoodies, but he didn’t complain. He just performed three times in the previous three days in full marching band uniform in hotter weather, so in comparison, this was easy. Eiven is a percussionist for band and has a drum kit at home. He wasn’t going to bring his drumsticks, but I made him include them in at least one photo with his Zildjian hoodie.
Eiven actually gave his brother more love than the drumsticks, which was nice to see. Marek who was on the verge of turning 13, worked hard for Eiven’s session. Marek held the flash in a softbox on a pole, and often had to hold it several feet above his head for long stretches. Marek caught on to the principles of lighting almost immediately and worked with such little instruction that I could almost forgot he was there. Occasionally, I would tell him that I could do a shot without the extra flash, but he still put it in position, just in case I changed my mind, and often, he was right–the shot was better with the flash.
Hopefully, Eiven will be around in a few years when it is his turn to hold the light for Marek! It appears that having a head for understanding and applying math and scientific principles runs in the family!
