Garrett plays the French horn and mellophone in band, but his primary instrument is the piano, which he started around second grade.
We did Garrett’s photos in various spots around downtown Cincinnati. His very-efficient mom handled wardrobe and styling, and his dad was in charge of hovering nearby with the getaway car. This helped us pop in and out of places quickly and vary the scenery even more than usual.
In addition to his musical talent, Garrett is nimble on his feet and lacks the typical safety instincts. This enabled him to learn to do a front handspring in about a day from his friend on the football field. I asked him to give it a go at his session, but I couldn’t nail the flash timing to make the shot work. However, it was remarkable to me that Garrett didn’t even break a sweat after four tries.
He is currently thinking of pursuing a career in sports-medicine. I imagine his future self might have some advice regarding self-preservation for his current, younger self. Hopefully he won’t be egging on a new generation of athletes to new heights of reckless abandon!
