In past years, I have referred to this family as the “Karate family,” “Action-hero family,” and other monikers, but as their interests have diverged over the years, they are becoming harder to label with one or two words. We’ll just go with “dynamic” for now, which can mean “characterized by constant change, activity, or progress,” or “having potential to spiral wildly out of control within seconds of being allowed to do one’s own thing.” Theoretically.

We started the photo session, as I usually do, with some nice, conventional poses, with the intention of letting the family mix it up a little later once they loosened up a little.

Which occurred thirty-nine seconds into the session, according to my camera’s metadata.

We made sure we got a few safe poses in between all the high jinks for the grandparents. There are individual pictures of the eldest boy as well, but I’m saving them for a different senior session post.

We fell into a pattern of me arranging them into a nice Christmas card-worthy tableau, and them putting their own spin on it.

And eventually, I just let go of the reins and let the boys run.

You know that social media trend of recreating pictures from childhood thirty or so years later?

Good luck with this one.
