This little girl wasn’t expected to be here before Christmas. She wasn’t due for another month, but things took a different turn. Because of her early arrival, I was expecting a smaller infant, possibly more irritable or with health issues. But she turned out to be an overachiever. She was a healthy weight, had beautiful skin and an even temperment. She was alert and calm at the beginning of the session, and got drowsy when Caroline swaddled her to be held by her siblings more easily.
It does help that Caroline is a champion swaddler. She bundled up the little one with the perfect tension and tucked in the ends neatly so that it stayed secure through three siblings cradling her in their laps. Caroline’s sister Olivia was also a invaluable assistant, getting the siblings’ attention when needed and looking after their needs when I kept Caroline and Ben busy.
After we fulfilled our main goal of photographing the little sweetie with all the family members, we did a few Christmas and winter-themed photos, since the baby was still resting so cooperatively. We mostly used items from their own holiday decorations, since we wanted to keep things authentic for their family and not too fussy. Caroline sent me pictures of their house beforehand, so I had an idea of what they had on display and could bring just a couple of finishing touches, like the bow to match the snowman and a holly sprig from our yard.
Congratulations to Caroline and Ben on their early Christmas gift and beautiful growing family!
What a beautiful family and newborn. Nancy, you did a wonderful job. You have such a knack for setting up your subjects.
Thank you, Viv! They are such an adorable family!
