Delaney recently played Juliet in the Lakota East musical production of Romeo and Juliet. After just a few minutes photographing her expressive eyes, it was easy to imagine her as a Shakespearean leading lady. But this charming and adaptable young lady was far from being a drama queen.

When I got to the park to meet Delaney and her mom, I was surprised to see the parked cars lining the street approaching the park and the main road loop blocked off. Apparently the Queen City Wheels bike races run every Wednesday evening in June, although the event isn’t listed on the Cincinnati Parks calendar. So we had to turn around and retrace the densely parked road until we found open spots some distance way. Then we dodged the waves of cyclists to reach the park, which was mercifully still accessible.

We had bumped up our start time because with the very sunny forecast, it was unlikely we would get color in the sky, and we might as well use more of the available light before it was necessary to break out the lighting equipment. However, I ended up getting out the lights anyway to balance the backlighting. And as chance would have it, enough clouds appeared right at sunset that we ended up having lovely color in the sky. Since the sky was rewarding her for her graceful attitude about the park being overrun with bikers when we arrived, I was happy to give Delaney a little bonus time!
