Justin did his portraits in October, but I got behind in my posts. At least we get to enjoy the fall colors a little longer this way.

Justin is a percussionist and plays the tenor drums for the Mason Marching Band. This particular band works really hard as a whole, but the drumline takes it to a whole different level. I’ve seen them doing calisthenics on the asphalt wearing their heavy harnesses to warm up, and their cadences can be heard in all the surrounding neighborhoods at any hour of the morning or evening. The hard work does pay off–the band is incredibly successful in competition, but it can be exhausting.

So it’s perhaps not surprising that he chose to take an evening off from carrying his drums, but I asked him to at least bring his sticks. Because a percussionist can always find something he can play on as long as he has his sticks.
