Owen is  good guy. He would have to be. Due to the rigors of the marching band schedule and his work schedule, he had very little time available to schedule a senior portrait session, but he did it out of filial duty. And since I also do the portraits and group photos for his marching band, he was also required to appear before my camera yesterday after a parade in the heat and humidity that makes Ohio special. Then the band rehearsed for hours afterwards in the sun. So I can imagine that he wasn’t feeling terribly energetic and enthused about more pictures the following afternoon. Still, he was a really good sport about leaning against this wall, sitting on that staircase, and standing in front of whatever shrubbery caught my eye.

Owen is a very talented French horn player and brought his mellophone for some pictures. In addition to being a fine musician, he also keeps a clean horn. His shiny horn reflected pretty much everything like a mirror. French horns aren’t the ideal configuration for marching, so the mellophones are what they play on the field. I thought if he brought a tip jar, he could fund raise for the band at the same time, but he wasn’t having it.

I decided not to push my luck any further than I already had, so I let him go home and rest for the rest of the evening. I knew he had another marching band practice scheduled the next day. Besides, I have the opportunity to take his picture again next week, so it’s in my best interest to make sure he’s still speaking to me by then.
