My weather app said it would be dry, but Sadie’s mother’s weather report said wet. She turned out to be right. It started to drizzle when I was arrived at Liberty Center, so I ducked under an awning and texted her.  They had parked on the other side, near the mall, so I headed over to see if there were any good spots inside the mall we could use for our session. As I reached the mall entrance, they texted me that they were in Pac Sun, only a few steps away. By the time I spotted them in the back of the store, Sadie and her mom had already found two cute tops and were heading for the checkout. Time elapsed–about ten minutes. They are dangerous women in a mall.

As it turns out, Liberty Mall has plenty of fun places to photograph. There are skylights, so the upper floor has a good deal of natural light, and there are several whimsical murals.

Because Sadie is an artist, we took quite a few pictures against neutral walls as well, intending to mock up her artwork in the background. She drew one just the night before our session, because I only gave her one day’s warning, but she has promised to do another one or two for me. I’m blown away by her talent!

The rain finally let up, and we were able to get a few outdoor photos as well. I’ve been photographing her since she was ten, so it was really bittersweet to see her all grown up, but she’s still as sweet and unaffected as ever.

I have more pictures of her from their family session the following week, but I’ll save that for a second installment!
